Mark Wade, M.D. | Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Surgeon
Dr. Mark Wade's first taste of Alaska was in 1987, when he worked as a fishing guide for a resort lodge in the Bristol Bay area. Originally from Texas, he received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University. He graduated medical school from the University of Texas-Galveston.While in medical school, he was Class President his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He was awarded the prestigious Dean of Medicine Centennial Award for Leadership, and was active in several community volunteer programs while in medical school.
He completed an internship in Ft. Worth, Texas at John Peter Smith Hospital. He then returned to Galveston to finish his orthopedic surgery residency. Many physicians opt to further their training by completing extended programs called fellowships. Dr. Wade has completed two fellowships: surgical-infectious diseases and shoulder/elbow surgery.
As a former competitive athlete, his desire to specialize his practice towards athletes is based on his lifelong involvement in sports. He has presented research papers at several national meetings, and written articles for both medical and contemporary publications. He routinely volunteers for athletic events, donates time and resources to support local school and sports programs. He currently organizes the annual Alaska Wilderness Medical course, which organizes many physicians to volunteer their time to teach about treating the sick in a wilderness setting.
A member of many medical professional societies, Dr. Wade works hard to stay up to date with the latest treatments in orthopedic surgery.
He has been married to his wife, Cindy, since 1987 and they have three children.
